      1. Birgitta, you asked in the comments on Carpe Diem how the English count syllables but we count them in exactly the same way as the Dutch or Swedish and your haiku fit the pattern perfectly. We don’t have some ”free” way of counting – each distinct sound is a syllable. Kristjaan unfortunately is using a computerised syllable counter that is getting it wrong, so his 3/5/3 and 5/7/5 haiku weren’t actually right. So just keep doing what you’re doing!
